Border Gavaskar Trophy: Ganguly’s Key Comments on Kohli’s Last Series in Australia
Internet Desk: Virat Kohli, India's star batsman, has faced significant criticism for his underwhelming performance in recent home Test matches. In response, former captain Sourav Ganguly has voiced his support for Kohli, expressing hope that the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy will offer him a chance to prove himself.
Kohli has scored just 250 runs in 12 Test innings this year, often getting out during crucial moments when the team is under pressure. However, Kohli's record in Australia is impressive, with 1,352 runs in 13 Tests at an average of 54.08, including six centuries. Ganguly believes that this series could be a pivotal one for Kohli, potentially marking his final Test series on Australian soil.
"Ganguly emphasized that Kohli is undeniably a champion batsman. In the past, he has excelled in Australia, including four centuries in 2014 and another in 2018. Kohli takes this series seriously, knowing it could be his last opportunity to tour Australia for Test cricket. For him, this series will hold immense significance," Ganguly shared during a conversation with a sports channel.
Kohli's recent struggles, particularly against spinners in the New Zealand series, have raised concerns. However, Ganguly downplayed the worries surrounding his form. "The pitches in New Zealand weren’t ideal for batting, and Kohli didn’t perform as expected. But Australia offers a different environment, with better pitches. I have no doubts that Kohli will thrive in those conditions," Ganguly remarked.
Ganguly also spoke about Sarfaraz Khan, who scored 150 runs in the first Test against New Zealand but struggled in the subsequent matches. Despite this, Ganguly supported the idea of giving him a chance in the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
